Today, it stands proudly as a recognized part of our Intangible Cultural Heritage, preserving the stories and memories of a generation.

Join us for this extraordinary episode of Urban Talks, where you will have the opportunity to learn from the best in the industry. We are thrilled to welcome Master Michael Yu, a seasoned artisan with over four decades of expertise, and Naam Yu, a visionary designer and founder of “Louud.” Together, they will illuminate the history and narratives behind this fading trade, sharing valuable insights and demonstrating traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations.

During the workshop, you won’t just observe; you will actively engage in the craft. Armed with authentic tools, you’ll learn to hammer, fold, and shape your very own galvanised iron box, allowing you to connect with the craft on a personal level.

In his spare time, he co-organizes workshops with different organizations, mainly teaching the making of traditional mailboxes to promote and revitalize the craft of galvanized iron.

Naam Yu

Naam Yu graduated from the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2012, where he majored in Product Design. His journey into traditional craftsmanship began in 2020 when he started his apprenticeship with Master Michael Yu under the Jockey Club ICH+ Innovative Heritage Education Programme.

After several years of dedicated study, he developed a unique approach that integrates traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fabrication methods. This journey culminated in 2024 with the establishment of his own brand, Louud.
