Product information

With nothing more than a simple cotton thread and skillful hands, generations of Hong Kong women have smoothed away the traces of time, weaving resilience and strength into their daily lives. Facial threading—honored as one of Hong Kong’s Intangible Cultural Heritage elements—has long been more than a beauty ritual; it is a testament to community spirit and the enduring wisdom of women from a bygone era.

In this episode of Urban Talks, renowned traditional facial threading artisan Mrs. Leung will introduce participants to the intricate world of this ancient craft. Her journey is a living testament to Hong Kong’s perseverance; through her threading expertise, she single-handedly raised her family. Today, her legacy thrives as a family business, with her children and son-in-law joining her. Together, the six-member family brings renewed vitality and warmth to this cherished tradition.

Moderated by a journalist from Hong Kong Craftsman, the event will offer an insightful dialogue with Mrs. Leung on safeguarding this heritage. After the discussion, Mrs. Leung and her family will lead a hands-on workshop, teaching participants the fundamentals of facial threading. Depending on the pace of the class, some attendees may even experience a partial threading session performed by Mrs. Leung or her team.

Join us for a Sunday afternoon in Causeway Bay to discover and celebrate this precious, fading traditional craft.
