Every Christmas, major brands launch limited editions of Advent calendars in all shapes and forms. This year, in keeping with our commitment to sustainable development, Lee Gardens has prepared a digital Advent calendar for everyone to enjoy a green Christmas filled with joy and surprises!

The first Advent calendars were used in 19th-century Germany. “Advent,” originating from the Latin word “adventus,” means “coming, arrival.” Hence, “Adventskalender” refers to “the calendar marking the arrival” and serves as a reminder to prepare for Christmas. An Advent calendar usually begins its countdown to Christmas on the Sunday closest to 30 November, but most start on 1 December nowadays just to keep things simple. Traditional Advent calendars were designed with twenty-four tiny windows, which can be opened in turn to reveal different bible stories, a symbol of preparing for the arrival of Jesus Christ. Over time, these compartments have been transformed from merely storing holiday treats like chocolate, biscuits, and candies, to including cosmetics, supplements, toys, coupons, and all sorts of gifts. Not to mention, Advent calendars now come in all shapes and forms, ranging from traditional paper boxes to more environmentally-friendly digital versions.
